The mayor, Andrés García, has recently attended the award ceremony that the Spanish Red Cross in the Region of Murcia has awarded four students of the IES Juan de la Cierva de Totana for their work to raise awareness about the reality of refugees and migrations.
The auditorium of the IES Juan de la Cierva hosted the awards ceremony for three students of the 3rd ESO and one Bachillerato for the exhibitions of videos and photographs made by these students in order to collaborate socially with Cruz Red regarding the reception of refugees.
This initiative has been organized by the Department of International Cooperation of the Red Cross in the Region of Murcia within its program of Education for Development and Awareness.
Mayor Andrés García, the director of the center, Juan Francisco Otálora, and the representative of the Red Cross, his regional coordinator of International Cooperation, Cristóbal Campoy, attended this awards ceremony.
Both the mayor and the director thanked the students and the Red Cross for their collaboration in this initiative in order to address the phenomenon of immigration through numerous causes and at the same time encourage students to be more caring and responsible citizens with the society.
In addition, the spokesman of the Red Cross thanked the collaboration of the institute and its students for participating in this initiative;
and reiterated the need to take care of the environment so that our planet is better than before.
The winners were Anthony Garcia, second year of Bachillerato (first prize as best video received a camera-);
Estefanía García, third of the ESO (second prize in the category of watch photography-);
and Alba Rubio and Miguel Gómez, also from third year of the ESO (third prize also in photography - watches).
