The City Council of Totana hosts a meeting of mayors of the Guadalentín region with the company committees of Adif and Renfe (21/05/2018)

The plenary hall of the Totana City Council hosted today a meeting of mayors of the Guadalentín region with representatives of the works committees of the Railway Infrastructure Administrator (Adif) and Renfe Operadora in order to know their demands and labor demands before the merger and a demonstration called for next May 30 in Murcia.

The meeting was attended by the mayors of Totana and Alhama, Andrés García and Diego Conesa, and the mayors of Librilla and Águilas, Mar Hernández Porras and María del Carmen Moreno, as well as the Totanero deputy, Alfonso Martínez Baños, the Secretary of Infrastructures and Transports PSRM-PSOE, Lourdes Retuerto, and totaneros councilors.

On behalf of the works committees, the presidents of the Renfe and Adif company committees, Juan José Pérez and José Celda, respectively, among other representatives of the workers of both companies, met at this meeting.

The works committees of the railway sector in the Region of Murcia have decided to go out to the streets to defend quality rail services and ask for the improvement of the commuter network.

For this purpose they have called a rally and demonstration for next May 30, at 7:00 p.m., from the station of El Carmen, which will be preceded by a rally on Thursday, the 24th in the morning.

The spokesperson of the Renfe company committee in the region has referred to "the abandonment of railway investments in Murcia, which is something historic;

since the infrastructures as well as the trains that circulate in these last years need an urgent bet for the renovation ".

He has noticed the discomfort among the workers due to this lack of investment, which is having an impact on the number of breakdowns in the trains and delays in the service being provided;

for what he has said that "it is necessary to make a greater economic investment to end this situation and proceed to the electrification of the lines".

In addition, he has defended the need to electrify the railway in the Region and has expressed that Murcia is one of the few autonomous communities "that does not have a single kilometer of electrified railroad, which would suppose the solution of many problems in the provision of these public services".

Similarly, has referred to the inconvenience that leads to the railway area of ​​Renefe in the Region of Murcia belongs to the Valencian Community and has insisted on the fear they have that the arrival of the AVE to Murcia suppose the disappearance of the current line of some commuter lines.

For its part, the mayor of Alhama, Diego Conesa, representing the four mayors, has advocated the need for railway planning in the Region of Murcia and has coincided with requests for electrification of roads in community infrastructure ;

at the time that has denounced that "Murcia is the last region in the arrival of the AVE, but also in commuter, goods and trains of medium distance".

In addition, it has announced that it will demand an interview, through the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia, with the Minister of Development and the presidents of Adif and Renfe to convey the concern of the municipalities of Murcia in terms of railway planning;

and "think about people, basically professionals and users of these services," he said.
