Municipal authorities have recently closed the Joint Employment and Training Program of Social Care for Dependents in Social Institutions, which has been held during the last year in the Local Development Center;
and that belongs to the professional family called "Sociocultural and Community Services".
The councilors of Economic Development, Promotion and Employment, Juan José Cánovas and Antonia Camacho, have proceeded to the delivery of the relevant certificates of professionalism.
Under this program, the City Council received a subsidy granted by the Regional Employment and Training Service, which amounted to 222,328.35 euros;
and in which a total of 15 working students, a teacher and an administrative support staff have participated.
The total duration of the program was 1920 hours during one year, distributed in 370 theoretical hours, 1472 practical hours and 78 hours of complementary training.
The general objective of the certificate of professionalism in this specialty has been for working students to learn to care for dependents in the social healthcare field in the institution where their performance is developed, applying the strategies designed by the competent interdisciplinary team and the procedures to maintain and improve his personal autonomy and his relations with the environment.
The areas of action where student-workers have worked during the development of the program, have been four specialized day care centers for people dependent on the City of Totana.
These have been the Day Center for the Elderly "Balsa Vieja", the Day Center for People with Alzheimer's, the "José Moya" Intellectual Disability Day Center and the "Princess Letizia" Mental Illness Day Center.
The occupations that these working students will be able to perform, after having successfully completed this program, will be those of physical, mental and sensory handicapped caregiver, gerocultor and dependent caregiver.
